If you need to locate one or more files, a simple search function can be helpful, but it will never be as flexible and effective as a tagging tool. Tagging files makes it possible to find them instantly, by using keywords which you can define. Reggata makes file tagging easy, thanks to its simple design. It gives you the possibility of creating separate databases, with their own tag collections and more.

The software is free and you don't have to go through an installation process to enjoy its capabilities. You just need to extract the program's files from a 10 MB archive and run its executable file. Reggata uses an insignificant amount of resources, but the best part is that it's cross platform. It is possible to use the software on Windows, Mac and Linux platforms.

Reggata lets you tag your files in different repositories, making it possible to associate the same tags with different files. In this way, when you type a certain keyword, the results will depend on the selected repository. To create a repository, you must select a folder on your hard drive. Once created, you can use different options, to add multiple items at once or one at a time. When items are inserted, a new window will show up, on which you can specify new or existing tags.

Files can be located by typing one or more tags in a query box. The results are displayed instantly, in a table of contents, along with thumbnails, ratings, statuses and ID numbers, which are generated automatically for each file. You may set the ratings yourself, from 0 to 5 and select an option, in the Items Table menu, to check the status of selected files. Additionally, the software displays all your created tags in a cloud, on the right side of the interface, allowing you to locate your files, just by double clicking a tag.

Reggata is not limited to specific file types, so you can tag anything, from plain text files to media files or documents. What's more, the software can open images, PDF documents, audio and plain text files with external editors. You can select the editors of your choice on a separate window, by targeting their .exe files. Another useful feature is the possibility of adding repositories to a favorites list. In this way, you can switch from one to another immediately, by selecting them from a sub-menu.

Pros

You can tag any file and find it instantly. The software lets you work with multiple databases, so you can use the same tags on different files, without mixing them in the same results list. Reggata is freeware and it does not use too many resources or disk space.

Cons

Repositories are not saved as files on the hard drive. Unless you mark one as a favorite, you must select a previously targeted folder to open a repository. Thanks to Reggata's tagging capabilities, you can define your own keywords and associate them with your files, so you can find them much faster and easier.
